"The Play's the Thing" is the 16th episode of the third season of The Suite Life on Deck.

Story

Ms. Tutweiler is handing back the class' playwrighting assignments. Though she speaks negetivly of most of the class' plays, Ms. Tutweiler adores Cody's drama, and announces the class will be putting on Cody's play on the sky deck as their final drama assignment.

In rehearsal, Cody explains that his play takes place in Paris, circa 1940s, and Zack will play the male lead, Brody, much to his annoyance (even commenting that he'd much rather play a zombie), and Bailey will play female lead, Hailey. However, after actually reading the script, Bailey discovers the play is just a thinly veiled version of their breakup which portrays Cody/"Brody" as a tragic victim of the unfaithful Bailey/"Hailey". Disgusted, she refuses to take part in the play, leaving Cody to take Bailey's part. On opening night, the play (which proves unpopular with the view people who showed up), "Hailey" is insulted two-fold now that Cody is playing her, and, for the finale, an overly distraught "Hailey" falls to her death. Bailey shouts to Cody (in front of the audience) that she can't believe he hates her so much, and runs off in tears.

After everyone has left, Cody and Zack have a heart to heart with Cody finally admitting the play was based off Bailey and himself (Zack pretends to be surprised), and that he has realized that he is as much to blame for the breakup as he thought Bailey was. Zack acknowledges that Cody was happier while he and Bailey were together, and tells him to apologize and get her back.

Cody goes to her cabin to follow Zack's advice (even bringing a romantic dinner for after they get back together) but Bailey, still hurt, says that they should never speak to each other again and slams the door in his face before he can say anything. Cody gives the dinner to the waiters he hired, and goes off to cry into a napkin.

Meanwhile, Mr. Moseby is jealous that Ms. Tutweiler is dating Bruno and, out of desperation, asks Zack for help. Zack suggests adapting a more "macho" look to impress Ms. Tutweiler, and volunteers to give some pointers, though it is clear that he has his own reasons for helping Mr. Moseby.

Zack pretends to help Mr. Moseby by dressing him up in stereotypical manly (actually ridiculous) costumes and setting up moments to make him look tough in front of Ms. Tutweiler, but nothing works. Not realizing that Zack has been doing this for a good laugh, Mr. Moseby thanks him for his "help", and Zack, feeling guilty, sets a scheme up where Bruno, who wants to loose the "crazy cat lady", fights with Mr. Moseby and lets him. Ms. Tutweiler and Mr. Mosbey watch the play together, but eventually sneak off in the middle of it.
