"What the Hey?" is the 21st episode of the second season of The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. After Zack and Cody miss the school bus, Zack convinces Cody to skip out and go to the mall with him, much to Cody's dismay. London meets her new stepmother, who takes complete interest in London, which forces the two apart.
Story[]
Zack and Cody miss the bus and are unable to go to school on time, so Zack convinces Cody to skip school and go to the mall, much to Cody's dismay. Meanwhile, London meets her new step-mother, Brandi, but London doesn't like her as she becomes annoyed by her parenting and tells her to leave so Brandi grounds London, much to London's shock and anger. At the mall, Zack and Cody meet up with Bob (who is also skipping school) and find out that Cody's favorite band, "Everything Stinks," are shooting the music video. Cody wins the contest to participate in the video as "Wing Lee". When London goes to Maddie, they go to her suite when Maddie suggests Brandi and London to go shop on the ground floor after Maddie suggests that she and Brandi should get along with some common ground. However, when Brandi disapproves London's choice of new clothing, London becomes fed up with Brandi's parenting as she angrily tells Brandi to get out of her life as Brandi walks away in sadness. Meanwhile, Carey comes to the mall for shopping and Zack and Bob try to hide while trying to warn Cody, whose dancing in the video. During the video shoot, Carey comes back to view it and Zack, Cody, and Bob are caught. As Carey confronts Zack and Cody for skipping school, Cody confesses that he was thinking that Zack was right about how fun it is to skip school, which causes an angry Carey to punish the boys as they leave the mall. London and Brandi agree to a fresh start and start out as friends, thanks to Mr. Moseby's advice. While walking to the elevator, Carey punishes Zack and Cody from movies, desserts, TV, music, and (for Cody) reading for fun for one month. Then London tells Brandi she never reads for fun.

- Zack: I don't know. She works like two hours a day. She has to spend the rest of her life somewhere.
- Snooty Saleswoman: (brings Carey some bottled water) I hope it's cold enough for you.
- Carey: Well, did you hold it right next to your heart? (laughs)
- Brandi: (to London) London, it's so nice to meet you. Your father's told me all about you. (hugs London)
- London: Moseby, why is this stranger hugging me?
- Mr. Moseby: She's your stepmother.
- London: Moseby, why is my stepmother hugging me?
- Brandi: (stops hugging London) Because, I love you silly!
- London: (confused) You just met me.
- Brandi: I know, I already love you. You're my daughter and you're perfect in every way.
- Maddie: Wait until you get to know her.
- Brandi: You know, when I was your age—
- London: When was that, 20 minutes ago?!
- Brandi: (to London) You will show your stepmother some respect!
- London: (gestures to door) I will show my stepmother the door!
- London: (about being grounded by Brandi) I hope you're happy!
- Brandi: A mother is never happy when she punishes her child.
- London: Well, the child ain't so thrilled either.
- Mr. Moseby: (to London about Brandi) That may be, London, but at least she's doing something that the other three haven't.
- London: What?
- Mr. Moseby: She's trying. Remember how number three just called you "that kid"?
- London: Oh I remember her... "that woman".
- Cody: (about Carey) Why did she come in here? She can't afford this stuff. I should know, I do her taxes.
- Wacky Wally: This is Wacky Wally-- [plays cartoon whistle] From WZPZ! [honks horn] Announcing our contest winner-- [triangle jingles] Who will appear in the new Everything Stinks Video, video, video! Now, come on up here-- [imitates motor][imitates cymbal crash] Wing Lee! Where's Wing?
- London: (to Brandi) Look, I don't need you in my life.
- Maddie: What London means is—
- London: I don't want you in my life.
- Maddie: And by that she means—
- London: You're not my mother!
- Brandi: Look, I'm going to be around for a long, long time. Your father and I love each other.
- London: (points her charm bracelet at Brandi) That's what step-mother #1 said, step-mother #2 said they were soul mates, and step-mother #3 was gone before the charm was even finished. You're just another one of these.
- (Brandi lowers London's arm and leaves in sadness)
- London: Brandi, don't leave. Look I'm sorry about all the mean things I said to you. I didn't realized you were being annoying, because you cared.
- Brandi: I guess I just got excited about having a stepdaughter.
- London: Well, how about we start by just being friends?
- Brandi: I'd like that! (she and London hug each other) Boy, it's great being a mom. (laughs)
- Carey: (enters the hotel with Zack and Cody as she lays down the law on them) Take a good look at the people in the lobby, boys, because they have lives and you don't. For one month, that means no movies, no desserts, no television, no music. Cody for you, no reading for fun!
- London: (to Brandi) Don't worry, I never read for fun.
Trivia[]
- This is the only time where one of London's stepmothers is seen.
- This is also the only time where Zack and Cody skip school. Zack says he has skipped school 3 times, but those times have been off-screen.
- This episode is aired on August 5th, 2006, one day after the Sprouses' 14th birthday, and on Equines Acres' 14th birthday. The anniversary of the episode after their birthday is "The Arwin That Came to Dinner."
- Brandi and Wilfred apparently divorce later as she is his 8th wife yet in later episodes London mentions that her dad has been married more times than that. In the SLOD episode Frozen, she mentions that she's had 15 different stepmothers.
- It is currently unknown how Brandi knew where the Tipton was.
- Morals:
- Don't cut class. It won't be long until it backfires on you.
- While you can admit your frustrations, don't take out your previously bad experiences onto other people.
- Sometimes it takes time for new step parents or siblings-in-law to adjust being an actual parent or sibling.
Goofs[]
- When the store owner goes over to see where the boys went after they disappeared, the inside of the dressing room is partly visible.
- Brandi says that London is barely sixteen but she turned sixteen earlier in the season. This episode might've taken place before Not So Suite 16.
