Zachary "Zack" Martin (Dylan Sprouse) is one of the main characters in The Suite Life Series, possibly haning ADD. He is typically the unstudious, outgoing and often lazy twin, who usually dresses in skater clothes. At school, he is a straight "D" student, mentioned in the episode, The First Day of High School. Besides not doing well in school, Zack loves wood shop (which he is the best in class). Also, it is revealed that Zack is the older twin in the episode, Arwinstein because he quotes "I think my baby brother put it right when he said...", and then he screamed out of the room. It was later revealed that Zack is ten minutes older than Cody. This was also stated in Poor Little Rich Girl Zack tells Cody, "Because I'm your older brother. Now get to work, junior". This happens within 20 seconds of the start of the episode. In Foiled Again, it is revealed that the Martin family own a goldfish because Cody quotes "Take the fish out of the coffee pot and put him back in this."
Skills
Sport
Zack is since the start of the show been very good a basketball, unlike his brother. He is also as shown in Miniature Golf to be quite good at golf and after Moseby's teaching, he becomes on a near pro level. He is also very good at bowling, being also on a near pro level. In addition, Zack is also a good dancer like his brother and is quite good at ball games. Out of the two Zack appears to be the stronger of the two, one very notable occasion is in Lost at Sea he takes about mile long hikes, is seen carrying a huge pile of bamboo and tells that he cut it down with his hands.
Survival
Zack has, on 2 occasions, proved 2 be a expert in surviving in the wild with little more than the shirt off his back. He's also an expert fisherman. Soon after he became a grizzly scout became the second highest person there, he also is good @ tracking & stealth. In Lost @ Sea he talks about having got neat hundreds of awards 4 many things, including saving someone (Cody's) life (although Cody says it was him who put him in the situation). Which also impressess Bailey very much.
Wood Shop
In Books & Birdhouses it shows Zack is very talented in making things out of wood, in the episode he was top of that class & was his teachers favorite student.
Intelligence
An interesting thing 2 note is that although Cody knows more than him school-wise, on several occasions it has been hinted that if he tried he would be the smarter of the 2. On several occasions when he has tried hard he has succeeded better than Cody, he also is shown 2 know many things like the history of Japanese fans & the date Columbus discovered America, which usually surprises everyone who knows him around, it has also been shown that Zack seems 2 have a better memory of the 2 it would also seem he only forgets certain things if he does it on purpose. He also has great general knowledge as long as he considers the subject important.
Zack is also a very good strategist, since the first episode he is shown to be able to make quite good plans that usually succeed or would succeed if some unseen second or third party didn't intervene.
In "The Ghost & Mr. Martin" Zack changed history when he learned of the tampered compass
Basically, Zack needs only motivation to show how intelligent he really is.
Advice
Zack is quite good @ giving advice, although it can sound ridiculous or hurtful to the point were it could be seen as a insult, it usually succeeds. Although rarely shown in the Suite life of Zack & Cody it becomes more common in the Suite Life on Deck. In the Suite Life on Deck, Zack has become much more considerate of others' emotions then his brother, always willing to help someone out.

& Sea Monster Mash. - Zack has a huge crush on Maddie. He always says "Hey, Sweet Thang" or "How you doin', Sweet Thang?". In Maddie on Deck it appears his crush is resolved when he finally gets the chance to kiss Maddie.

The Suite Life of Zack & Cody
- Maddie Fitzpatrick (Ashley Tisdale) - He calls her "sweet thang" & despite flirting with other girls, Zack had a crush on Maddie throughout all three seasons. Throughout the series, he frequently flirts with her & tries to impress her, though is constantly rejected due to the 3-year age difference between them. Zack expresses genuine love for her & believes that she loves him in return but 'just doesn't know it yet'. Though he has a huge crush on her in the whole series, it is the most major in season 1. In seasons 2 and 3, he still has feelings for her, but he also flirts with other girls. in "A Prom Story", where he eventually gets to dance with her. In "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad Hotel", it is revealed that his greatest dream is to marry Maddie. Zack expresses jealousy whenever Maddie is shown to fall for another boy, such as in "Maddie Checks In" & "Rumors". He seems to love Maddie more than his own mother as shown in "Pilot Your Own Life".
He always performs kind actions towards Maddie, such as being the only one to show up at her 16th birthday party in "Not So Suite 16" (despite London's bribery of big screen TVs) and ensuring that her work in Lip Syncin' in the Rain is given credit for. Throughout the show, his love for her is expressed in many subtle nuances. In the On Deck episode "Maddie on Deck," Maddie kisses Zack for confidence.
- Max (Alyson Stoner) - Zack & Cody became friends with Max & 'Tapeworm' in the first aired episode & second produced episode. Later in the episode, Zack & Cody ditch them but soon get back with them. In "Kisses & Basketball", Max kisses Zack on the lips & this annoys Zack. Zack & Max stop speaking to each other & stop passing the ball to each other in Basketball. Because Cody, 'Tapeworm' & some other kids wanted the team to win, they made Zack ask Max on a date. Max accepts. Zack then finds out he actually likes her. Then when he tells Max that he originally didn't want to go but found out it was fun, Max gets angry & leaves. They later make-up & become friends again. In "Club Twin", Zack asks Max to help the club get money, & Zack offers $10 &a kiss. Max agrees for the money but not the kiss.
- Agnes (Allie Grant) - Agnes had a liking for both twins in the episode, "Crushed", but neither one of the twins liked her.
- Jolie (Katelyn Pippy) - In the episode "French 101", Zack & Cody both fight over the French girl Jolie. @ the end of the episode, Jolie kisses Zack, angering Cody when he sees them.
- Jessica and Janice (Rebecca & Camilla Rosso) - Zack & Cody have gone on double dates with these two several times during the second season, but they like Cody instead of Zack.
- Darlene (Nicki Prian) - Zack had a crush on her in the episode, "Ask Zack". He manages to use the Ask Shirley advice column in the school newspaper (which Cody appointed him in the position) to get Darlene to go out with him, though his scheme gets found out by Darlene later in the episode, when letters from those needing advice from 'Shirley' accidentally spill out of his backpack,& she breaks up with him. Zack later apologizes to Darlene in the school paper (& inadvertently reveals to everyone at school that he is the person behind Ask Shirley in the process), & manages to win her over, much to Cody's dismay.
- Vanessa (Gage Golightly) - Zack had a crush on her during the episode, "A Midsummer's Nightmare". Vanessa does not like Zack, instead she likes Cody.
- Gwen (Selena Gomez) - In "A Midsummer's Nightmare," she is Cody's girlfriend originally, though Zack & Gwen kiss while running lines during rehearsals for the school production of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream & it was revealed that Gwen started to like Zack & she breaks up with Cody. Gwen's crush on Zack ended with the episode; otherwise they are very good friends.
- Ella (Alicia Favela) - During the episode Miniature Golf, Zack went out with Ella twice & attempts to beat her @ miniature golf when she beats him at the game.
- Haley - (Tara Lynne Barr) - When Zack had to go to summer school, he only flirts with a girl named Haley, and if she gets scared she puts a paper bag over her head.
- Betsy (Raini Rodriguez) - Zack told London that she was a "rat-roach" exterminator in "Sleepover Suite". He later kissed her so that she wouldn't be able to tell London that she wasn't. After he kisses another girl, she gets angry and slaps him.
- Amber (Kay Panabaker) - Zack fell for Amber,& tried to talk her into dating him in the episode, "First Day of High School". She is a year older than Zack, & she refuses to date a younger guy.
- Abby (Amanda Gallo) - Zack went out with her twice during the episode, "A Tale of Two Houses". Abby found out that Zack lied to her, but she forgave him.
- Dakota (Kelsey Chow) - Zack had Travis (Jaden Smith) cook in secret pretending it was him who cooked to impress her in "Romancing the Phone".
- Sabrina Bryan (Sabrina Bryan) - In the episode "Doin' Time in Suite 2330", Zack subdues her by saying she's his favorite amongst the members of the music group The Cheetah Girls.
- Kiely Williams (Kiely Williams) - In the episode "Doin' Time in Suite 2330", she hugs Zack because he says she's his favorite amongst the members of The Cheetah Girls. When he says this to the other cheetahs she gets angry.
- Adrienne Bailon (Adrienne Bailon) - In the episode "Doin' Time in Suite 2330", Zack tells her she's his favorite amongst the members of The Cheetah Girls.
The Suite Life on Deck
- Bailey Pickett (Debby Ryan) - Zack liked, & flirted with, Bailey in the first two episodes of the series. In "The Spy Who Shoved Me", Zack attempted to get kissed by Bailey, but was dragged away by Cody. In "Mulch Ado About Nothin'",Cody was saying that he feels bad that Bailey misses Kettlecorn, (a made up town where Bailey lived) Zack says, "Don't. There is nothing better in this world than an unhappy hot girl." In "Show & Tell", Zack puts his arm around her & calls her "baby." He is also shown to have his arm around her in other episodes, too. In "Lost at Sea", Bailey flirts with Zack after she has a fight with Cody, but Zack said he didn't want to date his brother's ex until three months had passed. In the alternate universe of "Bermuda Triangle", a nerdy Zack had an obvious crush on Bailey but then lost interest after he decided that he did not want to be a one-woman man. Also in "Silent Treatment" the season premiere for season 3, Zack (while attempting to persuade Cody to return to the ship) exclaimed that Bailey was "smokin' hot".
- Violet Berg (Christa B. Allen) - She and Zack had a romance in "Kidney of The Sea".
- Maddie Fitzpatrick (Ashley Tisdale) - When Maddie returned in "Maddie On Deck", Zack resumed the crush he had on her throughout all three seasons of the previous series. This time, she started responding to his crush by kissing him. It is also unknown if Maddie will make more appearances in The Suite Life On Deck.
- Olivia Cabot (Gilland Jones) - The daughter of Harvard's Dean of Admissions, Monroe Cabot. She & Zack dated in "Shipnotized" but Cabot has to approve of boys Olivia dates & Cabot didn't approve of Zack but he approves of Cody so Zack makes it look like Cody is dating Olivia. In the end, Cabot finds out and Zack & Olivia stop dating. Though Olivia's outrageous behavior after being hypnotized might have also contributed.
- Marissa (Allie Gonino) - In the episode "Splash & Trash", Zack finds a girl floating in the ocean & believes she's a mermaid, before learning that she is actually a competitive swimmer & after learning that she has no time to relax because her father wants her to work harder to win the gold, Zack teaches Marissa how to relax & act like a normal teenager. Zack later convinces her to go after her dreams but live a normal life, after she tells her dad on the phone that she is quitting swimming. She says that he is a 'really great friend', but they will be just friends only until she wins the gold medal in the Olympics, & then she will be looking for someone (Zack) to celebrate with her.
- Alex Russo (Selena Gomez) - In the On Deck episode "Double Crossed" (part of the "Wizards on Deck With Hannah Montana" special), Zack is seen flirting with Alex. His obsession comes in handy when she needs to hide in his room, to which he responds by looking up to the sky, putting his hands together and saying, "Thank you!" Later on, when he discovered that Alex used him to cover up a prank, he insults her by calling her cunning, sadistic, & cold-hearted, but this was immediately followed by, "Where have you been all my life?" Alex then showed a temporary interest, but then was dragged away by her brother to be punished for the prank.
- Tanya (Savannah Jayde) - Zack dated her in "Ala-ka-scram!" but she left him when he showed up late.
- Becky (Staci Pratt) - In "Smarticle Particles", Zack pretended to like Becky & goes out with her so she wouldn't beat him up. He later asks Woody to flirt with her & when he catches them in each other's arms after Woody slips, he breaks up with her. He later sees her & becomes attracted to her, but she is already going out with Woody.
- Hilary (Ashley Farley) - A girl Zack dates in "Family Thais". Zack originally liked her friend Sasha (Erica Aulds) & she liked Cody but upon hearing the other two were already in relationships, Zack and Hilary got together.
- Jenna (Michelle DeFraites) - Zack flirted with her in the episode "Lost @Sea".
- Tiffany (Veronica Dunne) - Zack dated her in "Roomies".
- Dorta (Katie Gill) - A Swedish girl Zack liked in "The Swede Life". Her ancestor Ingrid originally like his ancestor Knut but married another guy when he was shipped to fall of the face of the Earth.
- London Tipton (Brenda Song) - Zack and London work together for a marriage simulation project in "Marriage 101",danced @ the 80's dance, & are frequently seen sharing a chair, or working together alone in Zack's cabin. Zack often has his arm around her.
- Janice (Camilla Rosso) - In "Model Behavior", Janice is shown to have a crush on Zack, but Zack waits too long & she starts dating Woody instead.
- Maya (Zoey Deutch) -appears in "My Oh Maya", "Das Boots". Zack flirts with her but Maya ignores his motives. Later, Zack looks in Cody's 6 month plan book & fails to impress due to the plan being designed for Bailey. Cody tells Zack to treat Maya as a friend, therefore Zack becomes Maya's friend. In "Das Boots" when Zack, Woody, London & Maya almost die by running out of oxygen in London's shoe submarine, Zack admits his love for Maya. Maya reciprocates that she feels the same way, but when they get saved by Cody, Maya resents the idea of becoming Zack's girlfriend. In the episode, "Party On!" Zack & Maya shared their first kiss.[6]
Zack likes & flirts with many girls, but has never really had one long-term girlfriend. It is thought that he likes girls who are trouble makers. This is shown in "Double Crossed" when he told Alex Russo, after she used him & let him take the fall for her prank by responding, "where have you been all my life?". Although seems to be serious with his current girlfriend Maya.

- Max (Alyson Stoner) - One of Zack & Cody's first friends. Her first appearance was in "Hotel Hangout".Max kissed Zack once by accident in "Kisses & Basketball" & went on one date with him but left then went back to being friends
- Tapeworm (Dennis Bendersky) - One of Zack & Cody's first friends. His first appearance was in "Hotel Hangout".
- Bob (Charlie Stewart) - One of Zack & Cody's best friends, whom has Dyslexia. He appeared in numerous episodes. He runs along with Zack & his schemes, & flirts with girls just like Zack. He starts dating Barbara after she & Cody broke up when Zack & Cody left to go aboard the S.S. Tipton.
- Barbara (Sophie Oda) - Cody's ex-girlfriend. She appeared in numerous episodes, romancing with Cody. She can tend to be competitive. She once kissed Zack, thinking it was Cody, but Cody never knew about it. She started dating Bob as revealed in the Suite Life on Deck episode "Flowers & Chocolate", stating they started dating once Zack & Cody boarded the S.S. Tipton
